Bears Update Starter’s Status Before ‘Monday Night Football’ vs Commanders

Ben Johnson, Chicago Bears

Head coach Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears did not practice on Thursday, breaking up their week into two parts. They play against the Washington Commanders on “Monday Night Football” in Week 6. And yet, the Bears released their first injury report of the week, which included Jaquan Brisker.

According to the team’s PR department, which noted that Thursday’s report was merely an estimation of player participation because the team did not actually hold a practice, Brisker is dealing with a quad injury.

The concerning part is that the Bears listed Brisker as a non-participant on the report.

Bears Give Jaquan Brisker Update Before ‘MNF’ vs Commanders

Bears Injury Report Lengthy

Brisker has played in all four of the Bears’ games this season. However, he missed the final 12 games of the 2024 campaign with a concussion.

That he is dealing with a different issue is a double-edged sword of relief and concern.

Brisker is a critical part of the Bears’ defense. His play and the energy that he brings every time he steps on the field are indispensable. He is also in the final year of his rookie contract, and an absence would only further cloud his outlook.

The Bears’ first injury report of the week listed 11 players, including Brisker. Encouragingly, Austin Booker, who is currently on injured reserve but had his 21-day practice window opened this week, practiced in full, as did T.J. Edwards, Travis Homer, and Cairo Santos.

Colston Loveland, Jonah Jackson, and Kyler Gordon were all limited during the sessions, adding to the good news for the Bears, though Jackson is a new addition to the known wounded.

Running back D’Andre Swift is also off the list after dealing with a hip issue the past few weeks.

Ditto for Cole Kmet, who shook his designation to end last week. The good news ended there, though. In addition to Brisker, the Bears also listed Darnell Wright, Grady Jarrett, and Kyle Monangai as non-participants. Wright injured his elbow in Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys and missed the Bears’ Week 4 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Jarrett picked up a knee injury in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings, but played through it in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions and in Week 3. He missed Week 4, though

Again, it is important to remember that this report is an estimation.

Still, it is a disconcerting number of important names, and the Bears are heading into a big game in prime time. They have two actual practices left this week, on Friday and Saturday, before the game to get their injured players as healthy as possible.

Commanders Star Headlines Injury Report

The Commanders also released their first injury report of the week, and star wide receiver Terry McClaurin was listed as a non-participant due to a quad issue. Washington listed fellow wideout Deebo Samuel as DNP, though that was merely for rest.

QB Jayden Daniels (knee) was a full participant after returning last week.  The same goes for guard Sam Cosmi, who has not played this season. WR Noah Brown, a hero in the last meeting between these two teams, was limited.

Running back Chris Rodriguez was sidelined, while tight end John Bates was limited.

Both teams are banged up coming into this game, but the Bears are a little more so than their opponent. Even with two more days to get healthier, whether the Bears will have enough to overcome the Commanders in Week 6 will be determined on the field.
