Current Trend Bodes Well for Bears Training Camp

Ben Johnson, Dennis Allen, Chicago Bears

As is common around this time of year, players around the NFL are posting videos of their workouts as training camps approach, and the Chicago Bears are no different.

For the head coach Ben Johnson and the Bears, though, some of these posts could be giving critical clues about some lingering questions, particularly when it comes to key contributors like starting nickelback Kyler Gordon, who was a non-participant for most of the offseason program.

Bears rookies are set to report on July 25, while veterans like Gordon will arrive on July 28.

Bears Seeing Encouraging Trend Before Training Camp

Kyler Gordon Part of Promising Bears Trend

Gordon participated on Day 1 of organized team workouts, but he did not return after exiting early and has not been back on the practice field with the Bears since.

He has been working with trainers during the break, though, and does not appear to be suffering any lingering effects from whatever it was that knocked him out of OTAs and kept him from rejoining his teammates.

Given how much time Gordon has missed in the past year, cautious optimism is warranted.

Still, Gordon’s potential presence combined with Jaylon Johnson’s participation during the offseason program are two keys for the Bears.

Their revamped secondary is banking heavily on the incumbent duo returning to form, making their recent social media activity particularly encouraging. Additionally, Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has been working with several members of the offense.

All of this portends a strong start to training camp, which could move even faster this year.

Bears Primed for Strong Training Camp, Fast Start in 2026

Bears defensive end Montez Sweat noted how Johnson put them through a strenuous training camp in 2025. That was as they were learning the schemes on both sides of the ball.

The foundation has already been laid. The Bears can work just as hard this time around to fine-tune or even expand upon what they established last season. Having their best players on the field, a group that includes Gordon and Johnson, can only help that process.

Linebacker D’Marco Jackson’s latest workout video offered some more intrigue.

He worked on pass rushing technique during his clip. That could come in handy playing for defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who is not afraid to dial up a blitz.

Their schedule features a more difficult lineup of opponents on paper. The Bears are also navigating changes at center and left tackle. Despite that, they are set up well to hit the ground running when they reconvene later this month.
