Titans All-Pro, Former Dolphins 1st-Round Pick Floated as Bears Trade Targets

Ben Johnson, Chicago Bears

One NFL insider believes the Ben Johnson-led Chicago Bears could be in the market for some help affecting opposing quarterbacks, saying players like Chop Robinson and Jeffery Simmons could be worth calling about.

Jeffery Simmons, Chop Robinson Floated as Bears Trade Targets

Bears on Watch for ‘Big-Ticket’ Trade as Deadline Nears

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer responded to a fan’s question in a video mailbag, saying he believes the Bears “would look at potential trade options.

Breer noted the Bears’ “investment” at other positions relative to the defensive line.

“You look on the defensive line, and they traded away Gervon Dexter, who just got an extension in Atlanta. They have paid Dayo Odeyingbo, they have paid Montez Sweat, but that’s the area where you can see them adding another piece. And the obvious place would be on the edge,” Breer said on “The Breer Report” on October 7.

“Do you make a call to the Miami Dolphins and see if there’s any way that they would listen on Chop Robinson? I don’t think they would. He’s playing pretty well for them, but is that something that you could look at? Do you call the Tennessee Titans and just throw the moon and the stars at them and say, ‘Is there anything we can do to get Jeffery Simmons out there?’ Now, Simmons, of course, isn’t an edge. But he’s such a great player, he’s somebody you would ask on.”

Robinson, 23, was the 21st overall pick of the 2024 draft. He has 1.0 sack this season and had 10.0 sacks total over his first two seasons. Playing for a team that Breer said he expects to play from ahead often could do wonders for Robinson’s sack totals.

The same is true of Simmons.

Another former first-round pick (19th overall in 2019), Simmons is a four-time Pro Bowler and was a First Team All-Pro in 2025.

So far this season, Simmons has 2.0 sacks. He tallied 11.0 sacks in 2025 as an interior presence on a team that did not have a lead often. The issue with Simmons is that he is also expensive, signed through 2030 with a three-year, $105.8 million contract.

Bears Could Boost Pass Rush at Trade Deadline

The trade deadline is November 10 at 4 p.m. ET. The Bears will have time to further evaluate their group as the season continues to unfold.

That is plenty of time for things to change.

Entering Week 5, the Bears tied with five other teams with 10 sacks. They rank 14th in ESPN’s Pass Rush Win Rate. However, they are 32nd in run stop win rate. That could make Simmons an ideal target if the Bears can swing it, particularly with Austin Booker continuing to rush well.

At any rate, additional help up front appears to be in order.

“If we’re talking about the big-ticket moves, I think it would be somebody to help you pressure the quarterback,” Breer said. “I’m not saying that Jeffery Simmons is on the market. I’m not saying Chop Robinson is on the market. But nothing is stopping you from asking a struggling team whether or not this player or that player might be available.”
