Chicago Bears quarterback Case Keenum added a strong new chapter in what has been a storied football career.
Moreover, he can add high praise from a former Green Bay Packers executive as a footnote.
Andrew Brandt, former Packer vice president and current fan, as well as the host of the “Business of Sports” podcast, sent a message to and about Keenum via X on September 29, following the veteran’s standout performance in Week 3 on “Monday Night Football.”
It was more of a nod to Keenum’s career as a pro and how well the former undrafted free agent and multi-time NCAA record-holder has done for himself, and it included a “respect” GIF:

Keenum’s journey nearly fell short of the first three bullet points. He was considering retirement before getting the call from Ben Johnson and the Bears. He has often been described as an additional coach on the field.
Postgame, Keenum noted that he and Johnson see the game in much the same way.

Keenum experienced a wide spectrum of emotions over the past week as he prepared for his first start with the Bears and since Week 16 of the 2023 season with the Houston Texans. He spoke about the nerves–in a good way–and anticipation of this game.
He also noted how much confidence he had in himself, his preparation, and those around him.
Keenum also had fun with it, not only making light of concerns about the gap between starts and his age, but also reacting to a comment from Barstool Big Cat from 2019.
Big Cat, real name Dan Katz, posted on X in 2019, “RIP Case Keenum. I look forward to him winning a random game in 5 years as a backup” after a Week 17 and season-ending loss to the Dallas Cowboys while the Bears QB was with the Washington Commanders.
That was the last time Keenum opened a regular season as a starter.
Katz, an avid Bears fan, posted “Oh s***!” Monday’s win. The kicker was that a fan commented “Bears?” in real-time on the 2019 post. That is until Keenum reacted, saying “Not so random [thinking face emoji]” on Tuesday.
Johnson is remaining coy about the Bears’ quarterback situation heading into Week 4 against the 1-2 New York Jets, a matchup that will pit him against his coordinating counterpart from the Detroit Lions, Aaron Glenn.
Caleb Williams’ hamstring is expected to sideline him for multiple weeks, with just one down now, but Tyson Bagent–the Bears’ QB2 for “a reason,” per Johnson–practiced last Saturday.
Regardless of what happens next, Keenum has forever earned his spot in Bears lore.
