Chicago Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson could join his rivals on the Minnesota Vikings in a relative surprise, following his fourth-quarter tackle on running back Aaron Jones. Jones had a “little scar” on his face from the encounter.
“I’m surprised there was no helmet-to-helmet,” Jones told reporters on September 20. “Just got to pop up and get your helmet back, and get ready to play the next play. So, my pop-up game was strong, and it didn’t affect me. He was talking trash, but I wanted to say scoreboard.
“I just let him have it. ‘You guys made a good play’ and move on to the next one.”
If the league views the situation like Jones, it could cost Stevenson.

Just because the play was not flagged during the game does not mean it will go overlooked when the league does its weekly review of the preceding games.
If this play is fined after the fact, Stevenson can appeal the decision. That could prove wise, too. Impermissible use of the helmet can incur fines reaching $23,882 on first offenses and up to $47,762 on second-time (and subsequent infractions), per the NFL.
Moreover, under revised league guidelines, the play would count as one of three strikes.
Stevenson would get two more before triggering an automatic one-game suspension. He could get some of the fine money back if he avoids further incident.
Again, though, that is if the league deems it an illegal blow, and they act at their own discretion, with a decision expected by Saturday, September 27. It is also possible that Stevenson receives notice before then.
That is, if he does at all.
Stevenson finished with 5 total tackles. The fourth-year corner allowed one reception on four targets, per Pro Football Focus.
Jones, a former Pro Bowler with the Green Bay Packers, finished the day with 23 carries for 105 yards and overcame an injury setback to help the Vikings get the win. The two teams will not meet again until the Week 18 regular-season finale.
