Bears Get Good News on Rome Odunze Before Panthers Game

Rome Odunze, Chicago Bears

For the second straight day, and the first time in reality, the Chicago Bears had wide receiver Rome Odunze on the field during practice.

Odunze was listed as a limited participant in the Bears’ practice on Wednesday, but there was no practice session, and it was an estimated report. This time, Odunze was on the practice field, in the flesh, albeit in a non-padded practice.

The Bears announced after that Odunze was a “limited” participant.

Odunze suffered a foot injury in practice on Monday and exited early.

The third-year receiver did not practice on Tuesday. Bears head coach Ben Johnson previously called Odunze “day-to-day” with a foot issue that was different from the one that hindered him during the 2025 season.

The Bears have one practice left and then one day off (travel) before game day on the road against the Carolina Panthers in Week 1.

Whether or not Odunze will be at Williams’ disposal is still to be determined.

Bears’ Rome Odunze Heading Into Key Season

Caleb Williams, Rome Odunze, Chicago Bears

Rome Odunze and Caleb Williams will be extension-eligible in 2027.

Odunze, the ninth overall pick of the 2024 draft, finished his second NFL season with 44 receptions for 660 yards, both of which were down from his rookie season. However, he also caught a career-high 6 touchdowns.

Odunze did that despite missing five games in 2025 after playing in all 17 regular-season contests as a rookie.

He started 12 games in both seasons.

Odunze is under contract through the 2027 season, and the Bears still have his fifth-year option–which they must decide on by May 2027–at their disposal. But Odunze’s future should be at the forefront of their planning.

Caleb Williams’ situation will take precedence over everything else, but the Bears must also plot their course for the next iteration of this team.

Several veterans could (and likely will) be playing elsewhere at this point in 2027.
