The Chicago Bears are hoping Coby Bryant helps them be more consistent in coverage on the back end this coming season. The Super Bowl champion and former Seattle Seahawk certainly believes good things are in store for himself.
Bryant is part of what appears to be a work in progress in the secondary, specifically at the safety position, with the 2026 NFL Draft approaching.
At any rate, Bryant’s role in what was an opportunistic defense last season is vital.
Coby Bryant Shares Fitting Message Before Bears Begin Offseason Program
Bears Could Get Big Season From Coby Bryant
The Bears’ “first day” of the offseason program is on April 20. OTAs begin in May. Bryant and his Bears teammates will undergo a battery of on-field and other testing. With that as the backdrop, and on the heels of his and several other players’ new numbers, Bryant posted a series of images on Instagram.
The caption was simply, “2!”
However, he also shared an image of rapper Playboi Carti with the message, “Just wanna thank God in advance for the run i’m about to go on.”
“My brudda [fingers crossed emoji],” teammate and Bears wide receiver Jahdae Walker posted in the comments. Fellow wideout Luther Burden III posted an “OK” hand symbol emoji. Bryant’s secondary mate, Dontae Manning, posted an emoji of a basketball player (i.e., a “hooper”).
Bryant’s brother, ex-NFL DB Christian Bryant, posted flexing bicep and triumphant face emojis.”
Former NFL receiver, fellow Ohio native, and current Columbus Aviators (UFL) head coach Tedd Ginn Jr. said, “We got the Deuce like Marshawn ville s***.”
Isaiah Pead, a former wide receiver and teammate of Bryant’s brother, shared a set of fire emojis. Rapper and avid Bears fan Freddie Gibbs chimed in, posting, “Let’s go.” Meanwhile, Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz–a Seattle native–said, “Yessir bro! [No. 2 emoji].”
The excitement is real for Bryant and those around him.
He has lofty shoes to fill, replacing Kevin Byard III as the Bears’ deep safety (though they could be far more versatile this coming season).
Byard was an All-Pro and led the NFL in interceptions last season. Bryant is also not the hitter that Jaquan Brisker was for the Bears. The front office and coaching staff clearly hope that his coverage abilities more than make up for whatever big-play ability they may have lost.
Bryant is no slouch in that regard, though.
He had a career-high 4 interceptions while starting 15 games for the Seahawks last season. He has logged 7 INTs over the past two years.
A former fourth-round draft pick, Bryant forced 4 fumbles and recorded 2.0 sacks as a rookie. His turnover numbers have fallen off in that regard since then. The Bears proved capable of coaching players up, though, and Bryant has shown that he can be a sure tackler, albeit sporadically.
