Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has had a whirlwind summer, and one former NFL player and scout is of the belief that it needs to continue with an increasingly revered accolade.
Williams has already checked winning the Heisman and being the No. 1 overall pick of the draft (2024) off his list of career accomplishments. He secured the cover of the latest installment of the “Madden” video game series, too.
Next could be the widespread respect of his peers in the public forum.
Bears’ Caleb Williams Gets Strong Words From Former Scout
Caleb Williams Could Represent Bears on Top 100 Players List
NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks picked Williams as one of the seven players who he believes should make it on the top 100 list for 2026 as voted on by current players, citing, among other items, his “seven fourth-quarter comebacks” this past season.
“The ‘Iceman’ has helped the Bears emerge as a title contender with his spectacular playmaking feats inside and outside the pocket. The Madden NFL 27 cover star has not only captivated the football world with improvisational skills, but his ability to come through in the clutch has given him a superhero aura in the Windy City,” Brooks wrote on June 12.
“The third-year pro is climbing the charts as a top quarterback. He threw for nearly 4,000 yards with a 27:7 TD-INT ratio in his first season under Ben Johnson, despite his inconsistencies as a passer. If Williams continues to refine his game under Johnson’s direction, the league is on the verge of witnessing the birth of a megastar who could rival Patrick Mahomes as the ultimate late-game closer.”
Brooks projected Williams would land inside the top-50, behind his top selection Drake Maye of the New England Patriots and the third pick in the 2024 class. Still, Williams’ placement on the list seems imminent amid his mention in the league’s teaser on social media featuring Green Bay Packers star Micah Parsons.
Williams addressed the rivalry with Parsons and the Packers, but the honor would be the same.
No Bears players made it last season. Keenan Allen and Montez Sweat are the most recent Bears players to crack to the top 100, ranking 51st and 82nd, respectively, in 2024. Justin Fields, now of the Kansas City Chiefs, ranked 86th in 2023.
2026 Big for Caleb Williams
Williams threw for 3,942 yards–just shy of becoming the Bears’ first 4,000-yard passer–27 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions last season. But his completion percentage ranked among the worst for qualifying QBs.
That clear room for improvement has been a focal point of discussion for Williams and Johnson, both with the media and, according to them, in private.
Williams will be extension-eligible during the 2027 offseason.
The Bears appear set to handle that as soon as possible, meaning Williams could set himself up for a rise up the Top 100 list and secure a massive payday all in the 2026 season if he continues to show the kind of improvement that he did from Year 1 to Year 2.
