The Chicago Bears have already moved on from Brandon Hill, replacing him on the roster with Wesley French.
French, an offensive lineman, is not a direct replacement for Hill. The latter is a safety, and one who the Bears signed amid multiple injuries at the position during training camp.
French joins a group that is also patching things together, but is also trending in the right direction.

Wesley French In, Brandon Hill Out for Bears
“The #Bears have signed OL Wesley French,” the team posted on X on August 11.
French, who turns 30 in November, is a former undrafted free agent who joins the Bears after stints with the Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, and Indianapolis Colts during his four previous seasons in the NFL.
French has played in 17 games with three starts, all with the Colts during the 2023 season.
His arrival coincides with some mixed news along the offensive line.
The Bears remain without left tackle Braxton Jones. However, they could get Ozzy Trapilo back before the end of training camp. In the meantime, newcomer Jedrick Wills is left to battle incumbent Kiran Amegadjie for the job.

In addition to adding French, the Bears also announced they “waived DB Brandon Hill.”
Hill signed amid injuries to Coby Bryant, who is expected to miss up to 10 months recovering from knee surgery, Cam Lewis, Elijah Hicks, and Gervarrius Owens.
A former sixth-round pick by the Houston Texans, Hill’s tenure is cut short. The Bears appear to have settled on fellow free agent pickup Xavier Woods in their starting lineup for the time being.
The Bears piecemealed their secondary last season, so this is all par for the course. Still, they attempted to rebuild their secondary and, specifically, their safety room this offseason, only to face a slew of new issues.
