Joe Thuney is celebrating a new honor. He was a key part of the Chicago Bears’ resurgent 2025 season. The Bears acquired Thuney in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2025 offseason. Thuney showcased his leadership and versatility in his first season with the Bears.
It was just the latest in a string of exemplary campaigns for the four-time Pro Bowler and three-time First Team All-Pro. He has also won four Super Bowls.
Thuney’s consistency began long before he entered the NFL, too, leading to his good news.

Bears’ Joe Thuney Set for NC State Ring of Honor
Thuney began his career with the New England Patriots. He started all 17 regular-season games and both playoff contests for the Bears this past season. The Bears even moved him to left tackle in a one-off amid an injury to Ozzy Trapilo.
In his next career achievement, Thuney is going into the NC State Wolfpack Ring of Honor.
“So grateful, humbled and honored by this – thank you,” Thuney said in a post on X on April 7, quoting the announcement from his alma mater.
“Joe was the true definition of a team player during his time at NC State,” Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren said via the team’s website on April 7, adding that Thuney “was willing to start wherever he was needed and he excelled at each position. He established a standard on the Wolfpack offensive line that players for the last decade have worked to live up to…
“He worked just as hard in the classroom as he did on the field and truly deserves to have his name enshrined among other NC State stars.”
The date for Thuney’s induction will be revealed in May, after the NFL announces the full schedule for the 2026 season. Thuney is under contract through the 2027 season after agreeing to a two-year, $35.5 million contract extension last offseason.
Notably, Trapilo is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2026 season. However, Thuney is not on the Bears’ list of options as a replacement.
Whoever emerges will do so alongside one of the best players at his position in Thuney.
