Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears are making an addition to their roster, and the move could be quite telling with Tony Fields II joining the group.
Fields has been on the Bears’ radar.
His signing comes in the wake of their offseason program, which concluded with mandatory minicamp last week. There are several weeks until the Bears reconvene at Halas Hall for training camp.

“The Chicago Bears are signing Columbus Aviators LB Tony Fields II, per source,” UFL Analyst Michael Del Negro reported on X on June 15.
“Fields finished second in the UFL with 77 tackles and earned All-UFL honors.”
Fields was the 153rd overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He has 88 total tackles, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 forced fumble, and 1 interception in 45 games, starting 10 of those contests.
He has also 2 return touchdowns, with once coming on a pick in 2022, and the other on a fumble recovery in 2023.
Fields turns 27 on June 18.
Bears LBs Banged Up
The Bears were notably short-handed at the linebacker position during the offseason program, which may be the impetus for Fields’ addition to the roster. He worked out for the team last week. The workout came amid an injury to D’Marco Jackson and the continued absence of rookie Keyshaun Elliott.
T.J. Edwards participated in mandatory minicamp alongside fellow starter Devin Bush. However, the incumbent veteran battled injuries last season that leaked into this spring.
That underscores the Bears’ need for depth, which Fields figures to be.
The Bears have a deep group, including 2025 draft pick Ruben Hyppolite II, returning veteran Jack Sanborn, journeyman reserves Dominique Hampton, Nephi Sewell, and Jon Rhattigan, and undrafted rookie Wayne Matthews III. Fields will have an uphill battle to make the Bears’ final 53-player roster.
