The Chicago Bears clearly put a premium on speed, with that being a key strength of their free agency class, including linebacker Devin Bush.
Bush himself acknowledged that it was his superpower on the football field.
But Bush brings something else to the table. It may not have come across during his introductory press conference at Halas Hall in March. It could quickly endear him to Bears fans this coming season and for the duration of his tenure.

The Bears signed Bush to a three-year, $30 million contract in free agency. He has played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns in his career. However, it is a video from his college playing days that has garnered renewed attention.
Bush is a former Michigan Wolverine.
There is no love lost in the Wolverines’ rivalry with the Michigan State Spartans. Bush helped make that clear during his time there.
His pre-game actions from a game in 2018 include a back-and-forth shouting match with Spartans players. He also dragged his cleats across the Spartans’ logo at midfield. They have been commemorated every year since, and that passion could play quite well in Chicago.
“If Devin Bush does this in Green Bay, he will get a statue in Chicago/Indiana,” Polymarket Football posted on X on April 10, sharing the clip that Fox Sports has shared annually.
The Bears will likely want Bush, soft-spoken during his introduction, to keep his composure.
Still, that kind of intensity will play well in a rivalry that saw Luther Burden III put his hands on Keisean Nixon’s throat in Week 14.
DJ Moore, who helped the Bears notch walk-off wins over the Packers in Week 16 and the NFC Wild Card, is no longer in Chicago. Ditto for veteran leader and Bush’s predecessor, Tremaine Edmunds, who led the “It’s Chicago!” battle cries.
Bush will bring a different kind of spark than either of those players.
Still, his skill set and playing style should work well in the middle of a Bears defense that was much-maligned last season.
