Somehow, a rough week just kept getting worse for the Chicago Bears in Week 3, including a wobbly Justin Fields being led off the field by trainers thanks to the watchful eye of wide receiver DJ Moore.
Fields would return and finish the game, a 41-10 loss.
But the 41-0 Kansas City Chiefs advantage on the scoreboard when Fields left the game drew a fitting reaction from former Bears quarterback Jim McMahon. Of course, McMahon was the man under center for Chicago when it last won the Super Bowl, the 38th anniversary of which they will celebrate in February.
“Embarrassing,” McMahon posted on X on September 24.

However, this is not the first time McMahon has called out the Bears. And he has been quite direct about the focus of his ire. Asked what it would take of the Bears to get back to being Super Bowl-caliber, McMahon pointed straight to the top.
“They still have the same owner,” McMahon told Mouthpiece Sports in 2008. “Until that changes I don’t think anything else is going to matter.”
Chicago ranks 19th with a 253-295 record since McMahon last suited up for the franchise in 1988, per Stathead Football. The Bears have had 79 different quarterbacks start at least one game in that span, the most in the NFL by an eight-player margin over the Cleveland Browns and Washington Commanders franchises.
The Bears finished the day with 87 net passing yards with much of it coming in the fourth quarter as Justin Fields tallied 57 of his 99 yards. He also found DJ Moore for the latter’s first touchdown in a Bears uniform.
Moore finished the day with two receptions for 38 yards and a touchdown.
Just last week a hot mic caught Moore agreeing with Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David that the Bears were not using him right.

He finished that contest with 104 yards on six grabs, though, stemming the tide before today where his score should help. But the Bears are now 0-3 this season and have not won a game since Week 7 of last season. Their revamped roster is banged up on both sides of the ball and they lost four more defensive backs to injury on Sunday.
Bears’ Defense Continues to Bleed Points
This is the seventh time the Bears’ defense has allowed at least 30 points to an opposing offense since the start of last season. That breaks their tie with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans for the most in that time.
They have a three-game lead in 25-plus-point performances allowed.
While the offense has been as moribund in that span – scoring at least 25 points just four times and 30-plus points three times — the defense allowed 34 points in the first half alone.
Chicago also failed to record a sack for the fourth time since the start of last season, tied for the third-most in that span. The difference is that they were clearly tearing down their roster last season. This year was supposed to be, in their words, “different”. It has been different than last season but only because there were self-set expectations this year.
Kansas City finished with 303 net passing yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions (both thrown by backup Blaine Gabbert) against the depleted Chicago secondary. They added another 153 yards and two scores on the ground.
Hall of Famer Delivers Blunt Assessment of Bears
“You can’t fix it until the season, probably, is over,” Hall-of-Famer and Fox Sports analyst Terry Bradshaw said. “They’re not going to fire their coach in the middle of the season, that’s not their style. I do believe if this continues, and it looks like it will, they’re going to get a new coach.”
But, despite Fields’ continued struggles, Bradshaw does not sound out on the third-year passer.
“They’re going to have to get someone in to fix that quarterback,” Bradshaw said. “That quarterback is talented.”
