The Chicago Bears locker room properly reflected the gravity of the moment. Their 28-13 win over the Detroit Lions gives them their first in back-to-back games since Week 16 and 17 in 2021. That means it was also the first time in Justin Fields? career.
Fields finished the game with 223 yards and one touchdown.
Justin Fields Takes Ownership of Sacks, Defense Finally Finishing
Bears’ Justin Fields on Hits: ‘It’s Football’
He completed 57.5% of his passes on a day when the Lions? defense tallied three sacks and eight quarterback hits. Asked about the impact his continuing to get back up can serve as an emotional boost for his teammates, Fields first noted that he needs to get rid of the ball quicker.
?I think I can probably take some hits take some hits off by throwing the ball away or checking it down faster,? Fields said. ?So all those sacks and pressures aren’t on the o-line and stuff like that. So I just got to look at the film and see what I could have see where I could have gotten the ball out faster throwing the ball away boom, boom, boom, and just move on.”
Fields, who has torched the Lions on the ground in his young career, noted that most of his 58 yards came on scrambles and that Detroit did a good job of containing him on designed calls.

Given that he runs as he does, his mindset on the hits he took isn?t surprising.
?It’s football,? Fields said. ?You’re going to have games where you get sacked more than usual, and you’re going to have games where you don’t get sacked at all.?
As for the emotional lift seeing their quarterback display such toughness can provide?
?It might be. But I think we all just play for each other out there um every drive,? Fields said. ?We go out there and play for each other. So I think there are plenty of times where guys could have stepped out the game, they might have not been feeling their best ? I know some guys were banged up on offense. But we all play through it and play for each other.
?That’s what you want out of a teammate and from your coaches.?
Justin Jones Sends Message on ?Get Back? After Win Over Lions
Defensive tackle Justin Jones entered Week 14 with 2.0 sacks on the season. He finished the game with 3.5 on the year after contributing 1.5 of the Bears? four sacks on Lions quarterback Jared Goff.
Jones, one of the leaders of the team, took exception to the loss to Detroit in Week 10 and was not shy about it after the game.
?The way we lost in the last game in Detroit, that kind of left a bad taste in our mouth,? Jones said. ?So we came out here and knew that we had a pay attention to the details, and make sure that we honed in on what exactly we had to do this game. So we just came out there with energy man. Just played all four quarters, played 60 minutes.?
?That get back a MF,? Jones exclaimed in a post on X.

?Just switching people, switching different parts around,? Jones said of his newfound pass-rushing success, critical for 3-technique. ?And yeah just playing for-as-one. Make sure the communication is where it needs to be so that we can make the play that we need to make.?
Jones has had some newfound help that?s making a huge impact.
Montez Sweat?s Growing Comfort Leading to Displays of Leadership
The Bears acquired Montez Sweat at the trade deadline amid much consternation over the draft capital they gave up for him and the new contract they bestowed upon him. Seemingly all that he has done since arriving is make plays or at least flash. Sweat arrived with 6.5 sacks this season.
He has 2.5 over the last two weeks after falling to get home ? but getting close ? in his first outings with his new club.
?I’m noticing uh what my teammates like to do beside me. I’m getting more familiar with the calls and situations and stuff like that,? Sweat said of his growing comfort level. ?It allows me to play a little bit more fast.?
The Bears had 10 sacks when they traded for Sweat. They have 11 in the last four weeks.

Sweat?s familiarity has also fostered the pass rusher?s leadership, leading to some motivation as the Bears found themselves in a similar situation as their last meeting versus the Lions when they blew a 12-point lead.
He admitted there was a sense of deja vu. But he said that he took the opportunity to rally the troops.
?Sort of kind of towards the end of the game when we was up by two scores,? Sweat said. ?We’ve been in that position before, last time we played them. So I just kind of kept preaching, ?Let?s finish this time?.?
The Bears? defense certainly finished, shutting the Lions out in the second half.
Matt Eberflus Reacts to Low Penalties in Week 14
The Bears finished with four penalties called against them. That is their second-fewest in a game this season.
It is behind only their three-flag effort in Week 5 versus Sweat?s Washington Commanders.
?It was big,? Everflus said about the lack of penalties in the game. ?We’ve been focusing on that like we talked about for the bi-week Improvement. One of them was the false starts and the holding penalties, and I think we improved on that, only having four.?
Eberflus has spoken about accountability being one of the reasons the locker room has stuck together through the turmoil of this season.
?We always bring it to a man’s attention when you do that,? Eberflus continued. ?And we have things that we do afterward if you get a false start ? you’re doing this or doing that. It’s important to the guys. And we point it out to them, show it in the team meeting, and the guys want to do right.?
They did right on Sunday.
