Bears: Steelers GM Sends Message on Justin Fields Trade Rumors

Bears Trade

There are answers and then there are non-answers. When it came to questions about a potential trade for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, what Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan gave fell somewhere in the middle.

“I’m not gonna go into details about the conversations that we’ve had,” Khan told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine on February 29. “I can tell you that I have an obligation to look at every avenue that’s out there to make us a better football team.

“I’m not gonna get into any detailed conversations.

Again, that is neither a confirmation nor a denial. But it does come amid reports that the Steelers have shown an interest in trading for the Fields.

“A person familiar with the situation told USA TODAY Sports that the Atlanta Falcons, Pittsburgh Steelers and Las Vegas Raiders have expressed some level of interest in Fields,” USA Today’s Tyler Dragon wrote on February 27. “The person spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.”

It also comes after reports that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is a fan of the quarterback.

“We know that Pittsburgh is going to go out and get some type of quarterback,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on “The Pat McAfee Show” on February 12. “Mike Tomlin’s a big fan of Justin Fields. We’ll keep that in mind during the offseason in the coming weeks.

The Steelers have also spent time as the betting favorite to swing a trade for the former No. 11 overall pick this offseason.

Justin Fields’ Agent Inadvertently Stirs Bears Trade Rumors

Fields’ agent posted a video of the quarterback seemingly celebrating something. He danced and jumped around before running off clapping his hands, and saying, “Ready to go home”. That led to many on social media running with the idea that Fields had learned of a future trade.

This surfaced amid rumors that the Atlanta Falcons had checked in with the Bears about trading for Fields. This is, per NBC Sports Chicago’s Josh Schrock.

General Manager Ryan Poles also made a point to say he wanted to “do right” by Fields.

That was if they decided to trade him, though, and they were not actively shopping him at last check. The comments of the initial post on X also debunked the speculation.

The video was originally shared on Instagram with the caption of a re-enactment of special teams players on kickoffs. Still, the speculation only figures to continue. It could even pick up. The NFL Draft is drawing closer and opinions continue to mount that the Bears will draft Caleb Williams.

Former Falcons Star Warns Bears Over Justin Fields, Caleb Williams

Fields, for his part, has said that he wants to stay with the Bears. He did note that he would like a resolution to the situation – Poles did too – and assess the Falcons.

He noted they need another wide receiver.

However, it was a former Falcons wideout who was questioning why there is even a discussion for the Bears. That’s regarding Fields and Williams or any other quarterbacks in this class.

“One or maybe 2 qbs will be good out of this draft and none of them are better than Justin fields today or will be better this season,” former Falcons star Roddy White posted on X, formerly Twitter, on February 29. “Chicago can assemble a really good team but they gone listen to everybody and pick a qb and not better the roster.

“I don’t understand why they drafted Justin fields in the first place this the first year u actually gave him a good wideout to throw to and that was successful. The Oline is below average run game is below average so u didn’t help him but u gone draft another qb. Same situation.”
