The Chicago Bears had three. The Green Bay Packers had two.
Both teams were left with multiple players who are now lighter in the pockets after the NFL handed down its latest round of decisions on punishments over actions that took place the previous week, including Bears starting defensive end Austin Booker.
The Bears came away with over $17,000 in fines after the Saturday night matchup in Week 16, while the Packers tallied more than $15,000 for their infractions in the contest.
Austin Booker, D’Marco Jackson Fined Over Bears Game
NFL Fines Bears’ Austin Booker Twice
According to the NFL’s Gameday Accountability portal on December 27, Booker indeed received a pair of fines for his hits on Packers quarterback Jordan Love, both coming out to $5,818.
On the first one, the NFL determined that Booker dropped his full “body weight” on Love. The second was deemed a “blow to the head/neck.”
Booker revealed the fines to the Chicago Tribune’s Phil Thompson on Christmas Eve.
Bears head coach Ben Johnson agreed that Booker’s penalties were just that, with Love getting concussed on one of the plays. The Packers also did not appreciate the blow to their starting quarterback, who missed the team’s Week 17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens as a result.
That loss gave Booker and the Bears the NFC North crown for the first time since the 2018 season and means they will host a playoff game in the Wild Card Round.
Bears linebacker D’Marco Jackson also received a fine.
The NFL fined Jackson over a late hit on the game’s opening kickoff. That play also drew a flag, and now a $6,111 fine. Jackson was notably the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Week after the win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 15.
2 Packers Players Fined
The NFL hit the Packers even harder than the Bears, most notably with wide receiver Jayden Reed receiving a $10,880 fine for “unsportsmanlike conduct” over his “taunting” of Bears cornerback Nahshon Wright during the third quarter of the contest.
It came during a touchdown from Love’s replacement, Malik Willis, to wideout Romeo Doubs.
Officials flagged Reed for the play during the game, but the Packers still converted the extra point attempt.
Packers defensive lineman Warren Brinson drew a $4,981 fine for “unnecessary roughness” over a “facemask” on Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. Officials flagged Brinson for the infraction, which turned a sack on third-and-20 into a fresh set of downs for the Bears.
