The Chicago Bears have never had a 4,000-yard passer. They have also never had a QB throw for 30 touchdowns. Caleb Williams could be on the verge of changing all of that in his second season as the Bears’ QB1.
Former NFL player and scout, Bucky Brooks, now an analyst for the NFL, not only forecasted that Williams will surpass those marks in 2025, but he said he expects it.
It is part of what has been an interesting week for the Bears’ QB, Williams.
Former Scout Forecasts Record-Breaking Season for Bears QB Caleb Williams
Caleb Williams ‘Expected’ to Break Bears’ Passing Record
To be exact, Brooks projected Williams would throw for “4,500 yards and 35 touchdowns” this coming season. Erik Kramer holds the records for the Bears with 3,838 yards and 29 TDs in 1995. The Bears are the only NFL franchise to have never had a 4,000-yard passer
Brooks’ reasoning is sound, but largely based on optimistic projections.
“There’s a lot of anticipation surrounding the Bears’ second-year quarterback and his ability to make good on all the promise that made him the top pick in the 2024 draft,” Brooks wrote on June 20. “One thing that shouldn’t be doubted is whether he’ll become the first Chicago signal-caller to throw for 4,000 yards in a season. Williams won’t just reach that barrier; he’ll blow it away.”
Brooks cited “all the advantages” the Bears provided Williams with this offseason. They include “the best offensive mind available” in new head coach Ben Johnson. The Bears also upgraded their offensive line in free agency and via the trade market.
Moreover, they added to Williams’ arsenal of pass catchers with rookies Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III and veteran slot receiver Olamide Zaccheaus.
“Williams threw for 3,541 yards and 20 touchdowns last season when he was running for his life and trying too hard to extend plays,” Brooks wrote, having noted the turmoil of the Bears QB’s rookie season. “Better coaching and an improved supporting cast will make life much easier for him, and the numbers will bear that out.”
Caleb Williams Makes Waves Over Summer Break
Williams was a man about town, showing at Fanatics Fest NYC. There, he spoke highly about Johnson and even laughed about his exchange with Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud after their head-to-head last season.
He also had some choice words about Green Bay Packers fans, saying, “They suck.”
Williams also galavanted around with Lyrical Lemondae founder and music producer, Cole Bennett, an Illinois native, at Summer Smash.
Williams is certainly taking full advantage of his downtime. He was productive during the Bears’ offseason program, per Johnson. The coach also acknowledged the team has a long way to go to be ready for their season-opening Monday Night Football tilt against the Minnesota Vikings.
