The Chicago Bears, coming off an impressive win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3, have a chance to string together victories and potentially even officially start a veritable successful run into the latter parts of their schedule.
Entering Week 4, one former Bears playmaker shared a powerful message amid his current situation.
That and more fill out this edition of the Bears’ news roundup.
Bears’ Upcoming Slate of Games Lead News Roundup
Bears Can Maintain Momentum
The Bears will hit the desert to face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 4, and the game offers an opportunity to build on what they began establishing in Weeks 1 and 2 and finally capitalized on with a win against the Cowboys.
Like the Bears, the Raiders enter the contest 1-2.
The Raiders are riding a two-game losing streak. They also rank 26th in scoring offense and 30th against the run, which should allow the Bears’ defense to build momentum.
Las Vegas is also 24th against the pass, which bodes well for Caleb Williams and a Bears’ offense that accounted for four touchdowns against the Cowboys. The Raiders’ 18th-ranked run defense could let D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai pop in the run game, too.
The Raiders do boast the sixth-best passing offense and remain explosive.
They are also inconsistent, which the Bears can take advantage of if they can avoid getting in their own way.
It is a winnable game, and there is a heavy dose of them on the schedule for the Bears. After their Week 7 bye, the Bears face (in order) the Washington Commanders, New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants, and Minnesota Vikings.
Four of those games are on the road.
However, five of those opponents could have backup or inexperienced QBs under center. If what the Bears showed in Week 3 was real, they should be in most of those games.
Former Bears Playmaker Shares Message
The Bears cut former fourth-round draft pick Tyler Scott ahead of the deadline to finalize their 53-man roster. He did not wait long for work, signing with the Indianapolis Colts practice squad two days later.
Scott’s tenure with the Colts came to an end on Tuesday, though, as the Colts made room for cornerback Mike Hilton amid an injury to star nickelback Kenny Moore II.
Scott shared a message on his Instagram story after the news broke.
“Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in,” Scott posted on Instagram on September 23, noting the verse comes from Galatians 6:9.
Moore’s injury is expected to sideline him for a couple of weeks, so there is a chance that Scott returns to the Colts after the DB returns to action.
That is, if the wideout does not find another opportunity elsewhere before then.
NFC North QB Quandary
The Bears and head coach Ben Johnson got arguably the best performance of Williams’ career against the Cowboys, and fellow NFC North teams, the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers, are both set with their franchise QBs, Jared Goff and Jordan Love, respectively.
The Minnesota Vikings believe they have their quarterback of the future in J.J. McCarthy, but an injury sidelining him for at least another few weeks may have given them an answer now.
That is former Philadelphia Eagles star Carson Wentz.
Wentz’s performance in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals sparked speculation that the Vikings could stick with him over McCarthy once the latter is healthy. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell maintained his confidence in McCarthy, but also said they would not rush him back.
The Bears lost to the McCarthy-led Vikings in Week 1, but they could face Wentz as QB1 for the rematch in Minnesota in Week 11.
